infarct

Blocked blood damage

An infarct is an area of dead tissue resulting from blocked blood supply.

When an artery becomes obstructed—by a clot, plaque, or other blockage—the tissue it feeds dies from oxygen deprivation.

The term appears most often in medical contexts: a cerebral infarct, The scan revealed multiple infarcts in the kidney.

A heart attack is technically a myocardial infarct.
