Investigates suspicious deaths
A coroner is a public official who investigates deaths, particularly those that are sudden, violent, or unexplained.
The coroner determines cause of death and whether an inquest or autopsy is needed.
In some jurisdictions, the role requires medical training; in others, it's an elected position that may not.
The coroner ruled the death a homicide.
