caruncle

Turkey's red protuberance

A caruncle is a small, fleshy outgrowth.

In anatomy, the term refers to the pinkish-red tissue at the inner corner of the eye, or to the small protuberances on a newborn's skin where the umbilical cord was attached.

In birds, caruncles are the brightly colored, often wrinkled fleshy growths found on the head and neck—the wattles of a turkey, the comb of a rooster.

The word also applies to fleshy seed appendages in botany.
