protrusion

Something sticking out

Protrusion is something that sticks out from a surface or extends beyond its surroundings.

A knob, a bump, a jutting rock—anything that projects outward is a protrusion: The protrusion on the wall turned out to be an old nail.

The word also names the act of protruding: the protrusion of his lower lip when he pouted.
