calcinosis

Calcium tissue deposits

Calcinosis is the abnormal deposit of calcium salts in soft tissues—skin, muscles, or organs where calcium doesn't normally accumulate.

The condition appears in various forms, often associated with autoimmune disorders or kidney disease: The patient developed calcinosis in her fingertips.

Hard nodules may form under the skin, sometimes breaking through the surface.
