scleroderma

Autoimmune tissue stiffening

Scleroderma is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes hardening and tightening of the skin and connective tissues.

The name means "hard skin." In localized forms, it affects only patches of skin; in systemic forms, it can damage internal organs including the lungs, heart, and kidneys.

She was diagnosed with scleroderma after noticing her fingers turning white in the cold.
