bogs
Wet spongy ground
Bogs are wetlands characterized by soft, waterlogged ground composed largely of decomposing plant matter, especially sphagnum moss.
The verb bog, nearly always followed by down, means to become stuck or mired, whether literally in mud or figuratively in complications: The project got bogged down in committee.
In British slang, bog is a crude term for a toilet, giving rise to expressions like bog roll for toilet paper.
