pitcher plant
Tubular leaf trap
A pitcher plant is a carnivorous plant with modified leaves shaped like deep tubes or pitchers.
Insects and other small creatures fall into these fluid-filled cavities and are digested, supplementing nutrients the plant can't get from poor soil.
Several unrelated plant families have evolved this trap independently: The bog was dotted with pitcher plants.
