hindrance
Thing slowing progress
A hindrance is something that impedes progress or makes a task more difficult: The language barrier was a hindrance to communication.
Unlike an obstacle, which blocks completely, a hindrance slows or complicates without necessarily stopping.
A person can be a hindrance: He was more of a hindrance than a help.
To hinder is to create such impediment.
