boatwright

Wooden vessel maker

A boatwright is a craftsman who builds and repairs boats, particularly wooden ones.

The term combines boat with wright, an old word for a skilled maker (as in playwright or wheelwright).

Boatwrights work with traditional methods of hull construction, planking, and caulking: The boatwright spent months restoring the vintage schooner.
