strakes

Ship hull planks

Strakes are the continuous lines of planking or plating that run the length of a ship's hull from bow to stern.

Each strake is a horizontal band, and together they form the outer skin of a wooden or metal vessel.

The term also applies to similar lengthwise strips on aircraft fuselages or other structures where aerodynamic or structural continuity matters.

The shipwright replaced several rotted strakes below the waterline.
