housewright

Wooden house craftsman

A housewright is a craftsman who builds houses, particularly wooden-framed structures.

The term is old-fashioned, dating from when house construction was a specialized trade distinct from general carpentry.

It survives mainly in historical contexts and in the names of some traditional building companies: The housewright and his apprentices raised the frame in a single day.
