outfield

Beyond the infield

The outfield is the grassy area of a baseball or softball field beyond the infield dirt, where the left fielder, center fielder, and right fielder position themselves.

By extension, outfield refers collectively to those three players: The team's outfield is among the fastest in the league.

In cricket, outfield similarly denotes the area farthest from the wicket.
