field hockey
Grass sport, curved sticks
Field hockey is a team sport played on grass or turf, where players use curved sticks to hit a ball into the opposing goal.
The qualifier distinguishes it from ice hockey, though in countries where the field version predominates, it's simply called hockey: She played hockey at university.
The sport features eleven players per side and is especially popular in Europe, Asia, and the Commonwealth.
