baseball diamond

Batter's box setting

A baseball diamond is the four-sided infield of a baseball field, with bases at each corner forming a square rotated 45 degrees.

The term comes from the diamond shape when viewed from above or behind home plate.

By extension, it refers to the entire playing field: We walked over to the baseball diamond in the park.
