astrophotography

Photographing the cosmos

Astrophotography is photography of celestial objects and phenomena—stars, planets, galaxies, nebulae, eclipses, and the night sky generally.

It ranges from smartphone snapshots of the moon to long-exposure images requiring specialized telescopes and tracking mounts that compensate for Earth's rotation: I spent three hours on astrophotography last night and finally captured the Andromeda galaxy.
