microphotography

Photographing minuscule subjects

Microphotography is the practice of creating extremely small photographs, often reduced to sizes requiring magnification to view.

The term also applies to photography through a microscope (photomicrography).

Microfilm and microfiche are common applications: The library archives were preserved through microphotography.

Not to be confused with macro photography, which captures small subjects at large scale.
