eclipses
Celestial shadow events
Eclipses is the plural of eclipse—an astronomical event where one celestial body passes into the shadow of another, as when the moon blocks the sun or enters Earth's shadow.
The word extends to any overshadowing: Her later work eclipses her early novels.
To eclipse someone is to surpass them so completely they seem diminished by comparison.
