UAVs

Pilotless flying machines

UAVs is the plural of UAV, an acronym for unmanned aerial vehicle—aircraft operated without a human pilot aboard.

The term covers everything from military drones conducting surveillance or airstrikes to hobbyist quadcopters and commercial delivery aircraft.

UAV emphasizes the vehicle itself, while "drone" is the more casual term: The military deployed UAVs over the border.
