line-of-sight
Unobstructed visual path
Line-of-sight is an unobstructed straight path between two points—what you could see if you drew a line from your eye to a target.
In military and telecommunications contexts, it describes signals or weapons that travel directly without curving around obstacles: The radio requires line-of-sight to the tower.
A line-of-sight weapon must be aimed directly at its target, unlike guided missiles that can arc.
The phrase often appears hyphenated as an adjective: line-of-sight communication.
