Samaria

Between Judea, Galilee

Samaria is an ancient region in the central highlands of what is now Israel and the Palestinian territories, between Galilee to the north and Judea to the south.

In biblical context, it was the capital of the northern Kingdom of Israel before its conquest by Assyria.

The Samaritans, a people with their own religious traditions distinct from Judaism, take their name from this region.

The road from Jerusalem to Galilee passed through Samaria.
