Samaritanism

Aiding those suffering

Samaritanism is the religion and practices of the Samaritans, an ancient ethnoreligious group centered on Mount Gerizim in the West Bank.

Samaritans follow a version of the Torah distinct from the Jewish text and consider themselves descendants of the ancient Israelites.

The term also describes charitable behavior toward strangers, from the New Testament parable of the Good Samaritan: Her quiet Samaritanism—feeding the homeless without fanfare—went largely unnoticed.
