Samaritan
Ancient Samaria natives
A Samaritan is a member of an ancient people from the region of Samaria in the central highlands of ancient Israel, or a member of the small religious community that still survives today, practicing a form of ancient Israelite religion.
The term appears most famously in the parable of the Good Samaritan, where Jesus uses a Samaritan—despised by Jews of the time—as the model of neighborly compassion. (Lowercase samaritan refers generally to a helpful stranger.)
