Judah

Tribe and kingdom

Judah is a biblical figure, the fourth son of Jacob, whose descendants formed one of the twelve tribes of Israel.

The tribe of Judah became the dominant southern kingdom after Israel split, and the name gives us "Jew" and "Judaism." Judah remains a Hebrew given name: Judah Maccabee led the revolt against the Seleucids.
