Polaroid
Self-developing photograph brand
Polaroid is the brand name of instant cameras and the self-developing photographs they produce.
The camera ejects a print that develops before your eyes within minutes.
A Polaroid has become shorthand for any instant photo, and the aesthetic—slightly washed out, with a white border—evokes nostalgia: She shook the Polaroid even though it doesn't actually help.
The company's rise and fall tracks the arc of analog photography. (Lowercase polaroid is the light-filtering material.)
