Stalinism
Brutal Soviet ideology
Stalinism refers to the political system and ideology associated with Joseph Stalin's rule of the Soviet Union (1924–1953), characterized by totalitarian control, centralized economic planning, forced collectivization, political purges, and a cult of personality around the leader.
More broadly, it describes any authoritarian communist regime marked by similar repression and state terror: The regime's critics called it Stalinism with a modern face.
The term is typically pejorative, distinguishing brutal Soviet-style communism from other socialist traditions.
