White Terror

Post-revolutionary political purges

White Terror refers to campaigns of political violence by reactionary or anti-revolutionary forces, typically against leftists, communists, or perceived enemies of the established order.

The term emerged in contrast to "Red Terror" (revolutionary violence).

Notable examples include post-revolutionary purges in France, Russia, Hungary, and Taiwan's decades of martial law: The White Terror in Taiwan lasted from 1949 to 1987.
