Lake Superior
Freshwater volume champion
Lake Superior is the largest of North America's Great Lakes, bordering the United States and Canada.
It is the world's largest freshwater lake by surface area.
The name comes from French explorers who called it the "upper lake" because it sits north of Lake Huron.
The ore ships cross Lake Superior in summer before the ice sets in.
