The Edmund Fitzgerald was an American Great Lakes freighter that sank in Lake Superior during a storm on November 10, 1975, killing all 29 crew members.
The disaster became widely known through Gordon Lightfoot's 1976 ballad "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." The ship remains one of the most famous maritime disasters in Great Lakes history.
