Saddam
Saddam is an Arabic given name meaning "one who confronts" or "one who clashes." In English, it refers almost exclusively to Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi dictator who ruled from 1979 until the U.S.-led invasion toppled his government in 2003.
His name became shorthand for his regime: Saddam's Iraq, the Saddam era.
He was executed in 2006.
