Hapsburg
Empire-building European dynasty
Hapsburg is the royal dynasty that ruled Austria from 1282 to 1918 and Spain from 1516 to 1700, dominating European politics for centuries.
The family's strategic marriages expanded their territory so effectively that the motto "Let others wage war; you, happy Austria, marry" became associated with them.
Hapsburg is often spelled Habsburg.
