duke
Rank below prince
A duke is the highest rank of nobility below royalty in European aristocracies, ruling over a duchy.
The title appears in fairy tales and period dramas: The duke summoned his advisors.
In American slang, dukes means fists: Put up your dukes.
To duke it out is to fight or compete intensely: The two candidates duked it out in the debate. (Capitalized Duke is a name or university.)
