Bourbon

Old French lineage

Bourbon refers to the European royal dynasty that ruled France, Spain, and other kingdoms from the sixteenth century onward.

The French Bourbons ended with the Revolution, though the Spanish branch continues today.

A bourbon (often capitalized) can also mean a political reactionary—someone who learns nothing and forgets nothing, after the dynasty's reputation for resisting change. (Lowercase bourbon is the whiskey.)
