Austrian Empire

Multiethnic Central European state

The Austrian Empire was a Central European monarchy (1804–1867) centered on the Habsburg dynasty's hereditary lands, including Austria, Hungary, Bohemia, and parts of Italy and Poland.

Emperor Franz I proclaimed it in response to Napoleon's rise, consolidating diverse territories under one crown.

It dissolved into the Austro-Hungarian Empire after the Compromise of 1867.

The Austrian Empire was a patchwork of nationalities held together by the Habsburg crown.
