Greenwich Village

Bohemian Manhattan enclave

Greenwich Village is a neighborhood in lower Manhattan, New York City, long associated with bohemian culture, artistic communities, and progressive politics.

Often called simply the Village, it became a haven for artists, writers, and musicians in the early twentieth century and later emerged as a center of the gay rights movement, particularly after the 1969 Stonewall riots.

The area retains its reputation for independent bookshops, jazz clubs, and walkable streets that break from Manhattan's grid pattern.
