Jackson Pollock

Jackson Pollock was an American painter (1912–1956) who pioneered abstract expressionism through his drip technique—laying canvas on the floor and pouring, dripping, or flinging paint across it.

His name evokes chaotic-looking art that skeptics dismiss as random: My kid could make a Jackson Pollock.

Pollock died in a drunk-driving crash at 44.
