Carolingians
Charlemagne's royal house
The Carolingians were the Frankish dynasty that ruled much of Western Europe from the mid-8th to the late 10th century.
The name derives from Charles Martel and his grandson Charlemagne (Latin Carolus), who was crowned Holy Roman Emperor in 800.
