Tor

Privacy network software

Tor is software and a network designed to enable anonymous internet communication by routing traffic through multiple encrypted relays.

Users access Tor through a specialized browser to mask their identity and location: Journalists in authoritarian countries often use Tor to protect sources.

The name derives from "The Onion Router," referring to its layered encryption. (Lowercase tor is a rocky hill.)
