CAB

Compressed installation package

The most frequent use of cab is as an abbreviation of taxi, but cab had a history before that: it was short for cabriolet (a horse-drawn carriage), so when horse-drawn carriages for hire became motorized, the name stuck.

Cab is also short for cabin, and is used to designate the compartment in which the driver sits in a truck: The truck’s cab was completely crushed in the accident.

As a verb, cab means to take a taxi: We had to cab it to the airport because our car wouldn’t start.
