eighteen-wheeler

Long-haul hauler

An eighteen-wheeler is a large semi-trailer truck, named for its total number of wheels—typically ten on the tractor and eight on the trailer.

The term is American and informal, common in trucking culture and highway contexts: An eighteen-wheeler jackknifed on the interstate.
