British Isles
England's island group
British Isles is the geographical term for the archipelago comprising Great Britain, Ireland, and thousands of smaller islands off the northwestern coast of Europe.
The term is standard in geography and cartography but politically sensitive, as some in Ireland object to the implication of British ownership.
Alternative terms like *Atlantic Archipelago* have been proposed but haven't caught on.
