Plantagenets

Medieval royal house

The Plantagenets were the royal house that ruled England from 1154 to 1485, beginning with Henry II and ending with Richard III.

The name comes from the planta genista (broom plant), a badge of the family.

The dynasty includes the later branches known as Lancaster and York, whose rivalry produced the Wars of the Roses.

The Plantagenets shaped English law, language, and national identity.
