Falkland Islands
British South Atlantic
The Falkland Islands are a British overseas territory in the South Atlantic, about 300 miles east of Argentina's southern coast.
Argentina claims sovereignty and calls them Islas Malvinas—a dispute that led to a brief war in 1982 when Argentina invaded and Britain retook them.
The islands are windswept, sparsely populated, and known mainly for sheep farming and penguins.
