Boers

South African colonists

Boers are descendants of Dutch, German, and Huguenot settlers in South Africa, particularly those who farmed the interior regions.

The word is Dutch for "farmers." The Boers fought two wars against the British Empire in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Their descendants are now usually called Afrikaners, though Boer persists in historical contexts and sometimes carries connotations of rural traditionalism or nationalist sentiment.
