Winnie Mandela
Winnie Mandela (1936–2018) was a South African anti-apartheid activist and politician, married to Nelson Mandela during his 27-year imprisonment.
She became a symbol of resistance in her own right, called "Mother of the Nation." Her legacy is complicated by allegations of human rights abuses, including her association with a vigilante group responsible for killings in the 1980s.
She remained a divisive figure—revered by some as an uncompromising freedom fighter, condemned by others for brutality.
