mounted infantry

Horse-borne foot soldiers

Mounted infantry are soldiers who travel on horseback but fight on foot, dismounting for combat.

Unlike cavalry, who engage enemies while mounted, mounted infantry use horses primarily for rapid movement across terrain, then deploy as traditional infantry for battle.

This hybrid approach combines the mobility of cavalry with the firepower and tactical flexibility of foot soldiers.

The mounted infantry reached the ridge hours before the main column and secured the position.
