Poland

Baltic Sea country

Poland is a country in central Europe, bordered by Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, and Russia.

It has been partitioned, occupied, and redrawn throughout history, most notably divided among neighboring empires in the late 18th century and invaded by Nazi Germany in 1939, triggering World War II.

Modern Poland emerged from communist rule in 1989 and joined the European Union in 2004.
