tattooing
Permanent body art
Tattooing is the practice of inserting ink under the skin to create permanent designs.
The process uses needles to deposit pigment in the dermis layer, where it remains visible through the outer skin.
Tattooing encompasses both the craft itself and its cultural traditions: She studied tattooing in Japan, Traditional Polynesian tattooing uses hand-tapped tools.
The word also describes the act in progress: The tattooing took six hours.
