death camp

Nazi murder site

A death camp is a prison facility designed and operated for the systematic mass murder of people, most notably the Nazi extermination camps of World War II where millions of Jews and others were killed.

The term distinguishes these sites from concentration camps, which primarily held prisoners for forced labor, though conditions in concentration camps were also often fatal.

Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest Nazi death camp.
