woodgrains

Tree ring lines

Woodgrains are the patterns of lines and textures visible in cut wood, created by the tree's growth rings and fiber structure.

Different species produce distinctive grains—oak is coarse, maple is fine, walnut swirls dramatically.

The term also applies to imitation patterns on laminate, vinyl, or plastic surfaces designed to look like real wood: woodgrain dashboard trim, woodgrain contact paper.
